An opportunity for Living Connected team members and clients to record their oral history.
“Grand Stories” is a community service provided free of charge by the Rotary Club of West Wollongong. It provides an opportunity of recording for posterity the oral history of interesting people, which really covers all of us! The interview and recoding process was developed with researchers at the University of Wollongong in conjunction with the Oral Histories Association of Australia.
The whole approach is intended to provide a comfortable and supportive atmosphere for the subject of the interview, who sets the tone, tells the story and controls the content. The interview is conducted by a trained Rotarian and may last one or a number of sessions.
The record of the interview, in whatever format, belongs to the subject and the subject determines the use to which it is put,
There are a number of possible opportunities for use of the record – e.g. part of the family record, part of a community oral history etc, but the control of the record rests with the subject.
